I am currently working onboard a 88meter charter superyacht alongside a crew of 28 other people. We work together to deliver exceptional experiences for our guests and boat owner.
Our boat hosts guests for the majority of the year and during this time my responsibilities alternate depending on what type of stay the clients renting our boat are seeking. Sometimes I work to help organize and manage huge dinner parties and events for 100+ guests, other times I am serving food and bartending or maintaining the boat's interior.
My day to day involves constant guest interaction with our guests who are often very famous public figures or billionaires whom naturally expect an extremely high level of professionalism and service. This is an extremely busy work environment where at any given time all crew are balancing a significant amount of responsibilities.
My natural ability to work well with others has helped me excell in my role here. To work on a charter boat requires a lot of strength, perseverance and adaptability all of which I have proved myself to have before and during this job.
Given the nature of this job we often work for extremely long periods of times without being allowed off the boat. If the guests are happy with how the crew perform we are rewarded with very considerable 'tips' that justify the sacrifices necessary to work on this type of boat.
Undoubtedly working on a charter yacht requires being good at working in a high pressure environment where stress is consent. We are constantly traveling to countries and hosting large events on only a days notice where the tiniest error can cost the crew life changing sums money. Therefore being able to handle stress and communicate with others well is critical.
I have found this job incredibly rewarding since day one and I am thankful to have been able to improve of countless transferable skills that will benefit my greatly in future endeavors.
Just after graduating high school at 18 years old I spent the summer working in Italy. I thoroughly enjoyed working for this company, so much so that I returned to work for Eurocamp again a year later except this time in a different resort on the beautiful island of Corsica.
When working as receptionist I cultivated positive relationships with clients through professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills.
I have never been someone to shy away from dirty work and during these summers much of my days involved heavy physical labour such as transporting and changing countless gas bottles, assembling and unasembleling mobile homes and of course maintaining the overall cleanliness of these resorts.
Prior to this job I did not have the chance to meet so many people from outside my home country, therefore at 18 years old I was grateful to work and live somewhere surrounded by people from different cultures and of course learn and grow through these new friends and colleagues.
I began waitressing when I was 14years old. Throughout my teenage years I worked at The Sandymount 4 star hotel in Dublin. Here I worked during the weekends and school holidays and absolutely loved it.
As this is a large and very busy hotel located next to our largest sports stadium in Ireland I gained years of waitressing experience servicing events and catering during busy hotel 'rugby match days' when matches were played in the stadium next door.
This job served as a practical and fun introduction to the service/ catering industry.
At 16 I began working a second part time job alongside attending school full time and working at a hotel part time.
Unfortunately less than a year into working here our country went into covid lockdown hence my employment ending. I loved working here as it allowed me to practice my organizational skills and interpersonal skills as most of days here were spent interacting with customers.
