Percussive Driller

- I was a percussive driller for a period of time at Major Drilling which is a contracting drilling company based out of Moncton New Brunswick, Canada. I contracted at the East Boulder Stillwater Mine outside of Big Timber, Montana where platinum and palladium is mined.
- I was trained thoroughly in drilling and mine safety in Salt Lake City, Utah. I enjoyed this position. The skills I acquired from winter wheat farming transitioned well into this position. I was responsible for drilling percussive blast holes to break apart rock in preparation for the extraction process. I was also responsible for drilling safety retention bolt holes. These bolts secure mine walls and ceilings to maintain a safe work environment. I have also worked on multiple entrepreneurship ventures and made significant progress with them. The entrepreneurship ambitions I’ve pursued are the reasons that I left Major Drilling.

- I was responsible for many duties and tasks on the winter wheat farm I was employed on. These duties and tasks included the following:
- TREATING SEED: This process includes applying a coat of wet chemical fertilizer blend to the seed before it is used during seeding. Treating seed takes place as it is being dumped into an auger from the bin.
- FIXING ROADS: This duty included operating a tractor with a large iron drag attached. I groomed the roads to make them accessible for entering trucks and equipment.
- OPERATING TRUCKS: I was responsible for hauling fertilizer and seed.
- OPERATING TRACTORS: I operated tractors for all farm related work.
- LOADING TREATED SEED INTO DRILLS: I loaded drills with seed as they were seeding in the field.
- FILLING AND HAULING ANHYDROUS AMMONIA: Anhydrous Ammonia is a liquid and gas fertilizer that is stored in metal tanks. These metal tanks are connected to the drills while seeding, injecting anhydrous ammonia into the ground. The anhydrous ammonia is then injected into the ground when the drills are planting the seed. It is an effective fertilizer.
- UNLOADING AND LOADING GRAIN: I was responsible for loading grain from bins into trucks. I was also responsible for loading grain into bins from trucks.
- WEIGHING TRUCKS: I took the weight of trucks so an exact amount of grain could be determined to have either been entered into them or taken from them for farm operation documentation.
- FIXING MACHINERY: I was responsible for fixing minor mechanical issues on different farming equipment and vehicles.
- CLEANING SEED: This is a multi step process where the seed is entered from a bin into a seed cleaning machine. The seed cleaning machine subjects the seed to a sanitation process, preparing it to be planted.
