  • Reporting to: CEO; CO Finance & Administration
  • MaltaPost is the primary provider of mail and logistic solutions in Malta. It began as the Department of Posts, later becoming partially privatised until it was fully privatised and listed in the Malta Stock Exchange in January 2008. Majority of shares are owned by a commercial bank. I am proud to have been part of the management team which – in the period from 2003 to 2008 – spearheaded major operational, financial and HR changes that led to the company’s successful listing and performance.
I was involved in annual budgeting, periodic forecasting, preparation of business plans, management accounts; reports on statistics, variances, costing, investment appraisals; preparation of regulatory accounts as required by the postal regulator. Senior Accountant, Chief Accountant

Portman International
05.1998 - 04.2003
  • Senior Accountant (Reporting to: Chief Accountant; Managing Director)
  • Portman is a provider of fiduciary and financial support services to international clients. Our department provided the accounting, audit and other operational support services to a portfolio of over 100 clients with. We prepared management accounts and statutory financial statements, tax and VAT returns for principally Maltese and UK companies. Systems used: Microsoft applications, Lotus Notes, Shireburn Accounting Software. When I first joined Portman, the accounting work was being carried out in the satellite offices of London, therefore my first challenge when joining was to set up a team in Malta to take over these tasks. Together with the financial controller and later the new chief accountant, we established an efficient team of professionals who together not only took over the client base from UK, but also increased the number of clients dramatically. This job entailed constant communication with foreign clients and other professionals spread across
different countries and although this could sometimes be a challenge, it did provide immense satisfaction. During my time working at Portman, I successfully concluded the Accountancy course leading to MIA/ACCA qualification and eventually leading to the CPA warrant.

Insurance companies; credit control. St. Philips Hospital was – in 1995 – the first dedicated, fully-fledged and state-of-the-art Private Hospital in Malta. Initially it was managed by a foreign team of professionals, with whom I integrated and worked very well. I enjoyed this experience as the health sector is very close to my heart. For the best part of this period, we lacked a Financial Controller therefore I was normally the main point of contact for reporting on financial and operational results.
