I have always had a passion for working within the veterinary and agricultural sector and I believe many improvements can be made if one keeps an open-mind and welcomes new ideas for implementation. Good communication, collaboration and inclusion is important to me as an individual as I have always tried to incorporate these three key factors when working on projects with my fellow peers.

  • During my time at AAA, I helped maintain and ensure a clean, neat, and operational facility to serve program needs.
  • Attention and medical care was given to quarantined dogs and puppies alike who were segregated from the rest.
  • Due to my experience there, I also used strong interpersonal communication skills to convey information to others and to help guide newcomers.
  • I spent a significant amount of time at AAA during my last scholastic year as I was collecting data for my thesis, which was focused on hostile behavior in canines. This required for me to conduct my study on 200 individual dogs in all. Data was collected via a specifically tailored ethogram designed by myself.

  • My roles at the VRD consisted of accompanying staff members on farm visits for animal inspections, collecting blood samples, documenting the results and organizing paper work in the main office.

  • Observation of slaughter process, including stunning in swine, bovines and caprines.
  • Assisting in inspections and record-taking. Any abscesses or anomalies observed in inspected organs were highlighted, identified and recorded.

  • My roles at Pets Veterinary Clinic included the cleaning of instruments and readily preparing them, assisting in consultations, handling of patients, ensuring hygiene in the operating theatre and monitoring in-patient animals' vitals.
  • I was also introduced to certain techniques in orthopedics as the veterinarian was specialized in the field.

  • My experience at CSAF involved ensuring the health, hygiene and wellbeing of felines within the sanctuary.
  • It was a pleasure working at a cat shelter and I stress the importance of having more cat shelters in Malta due to there being many strays.

  • As a veterinary nurse student, carrying out my placement at Vets on Wheels was an eye-opening experience especially since one learns that all members of staff must work together as a team and in a timely order.
  • There were many cases which have in turn exposed me further to the veterinary profession. I have witnessed surgeries, euthanasia, regular consultations and equine treatment and care.
  • My primary roles were to help and assist in keeping the general area clean, preparing the appropriate instruments and organizing packaging, handling in-patient animals and monitoring them, checking the IV drip, carrying out blood work and administration of vaccines and medication.

  • Animal Doctors was the first clinic I carried out my placement in as a first-year student.
  • My roles included assisting during consultations, handling the patients whilst carrying out procedures such as ultrasounds, communicating with clients and monitoring in-patients vitals.
  • This experience also exposed me to exotic animal care.
